When the holiday season hits, it’s tempting to let your style slide. The heat, the humidity, and the never-ending to-do list can make throwing on a crumpled sundress or old pair of shorts feel like the only option.

But staying cool and looking polished isn’t as hard as you might think. Casual elegance is about balance. It’s effortless, but intentional. And it makes you feel good without trying too hard.

I’ll admit, I’ve been guilty of succumbing to the weather in the past, reaching for whatever’s clean and convenient rather than taking a moment to think about how I want to feel that day. I mean, why bother if I’m just hanging around at home or running errands, right? Wrong. Changing your strategy to those sort of days makes a huge difference to both how much and the quality of what gets done.

Here are my top tips to help you nail holiday style this year.

Breathable fabrics. Upgrade silhouette

It’s hot, sticky, and the last thing you want is synthetic fabric clinging to your skin. Stick to natural, breathable materials like linen, cotton, or cellulose types. But don’t stop there. Look for pieces with structure, like wide-leg linen trousers or a cotton shirt dress. These shapes add that “sharpness” while keeping you comfortable.

Avoid loose, shapeless styles that can make you feel frumpy, unless you balance with another separate with a sharp silhouette. Seam placement is important. A slight taper at the waist or cuffed sleeves create that elegant touch without sacrificing practicality.

Here are a few examples below of combining a comfortable fabric with elements of a sharp silhouette.

One statement accessory

Nothing pulls a look together faster than a standout piece. Think bold earrings, a wide-brimmed hat, or a sleek sandal with metallic detail. Over-accessorising can look busy and uncomfortable in warm weather, so choose one key piece to elevate the entire outfit.

This is also a great way to experiment with colour. If you’ve had a colour analysis with me, you’ll know your signature tones. Incorporate one of those to “pop” your features.

Skip heavy makeup

There’s nothing elegant about makeup melting down your face in the heat. I personally enjoy embracing  the skin I have, don’t like the idea of make up rubbing onto clothes.

Forget about the primers and setting sprays, shadows and liners. Swap heavy foundations for lightweight tinted moisturisers and maybe a little cream blush. A swipe of mascara and a gorgeous lip tint can make you feel put together without hassle or discomfort.

Lightweight makeup is kinder to your skin anyway, letting it breathe and keeping you glowing for all those summer get-togethers.

Think capsule

Stop cramming your wardrobe with things you’ll never wear. This holiday season, focus on a curated collection of versatile, mix-and-match pieces that reflect your style personality.

One of my clients recently said, “I can’t believe how quick it is deciding what to buy and wear. Your guidance has made it so easy now!” That’s the power of a well-thought-out wardrobe.

If your wardrobe needs a refresh, my Wardrobe Audit service can help you get rid of what doesn’t work and maximise what does.

Prioritise foot comfort

Nothing ruins holiday elegance faster than sore feet. Trust me. I have been THAT person on waayy too many occasions.

With all the standing, walking, and mingling, you need shoes that work for you, not against you. Look for stylish sandals and flats, slingbacks, wedges, kitten heels, or block heels with padded soles. Leather or suede options will give you that luxe look, they are far more polished than fabric ones, and they’ll only feel better with age.

Give yourself permission to outsource

This tip isn’t about clothes, but it’s just as important. Holidays can be exhausting, and the last thing you need is to burn yourself out trying to do it all. Give yourself the gift of time by outsourcing what you can. Time is the one thing we can’t get back or make more of.

Let someone else handle the food platters, wrapping, or even the dreaded shopping in the crowded sales. For those who struggle with their style, gift yourself (or gift voucher to a loved one) a Colour Analysis Consultation to set the tone for the new year. One of my clients recently gifted this to their sister, and it was the highlight of her holidays.

Holidays can be a time of sensory overload. The noise, the pressure, the endless events. Dressing intentionally is about how you both look and feel. When you feel at ease in your outfit, it ripples across your day. You’re more relaxed, and more present with those around you. Feel free to book a session with me.

This season, take the opportunity to prioritise yourself. Because the best gift you can give those you love is your happiest, most grounded self. And that starts with how you show up. Effortless, elegant, you.
